Peking University Study Programme Eligibility Criteria

UCL IOE Confucius Institute and Peking University would like to announce that IOE Confucius Classroom students will be offered the chance to take up a Hanban scholarship to study Chinese for one year at the prestigious Peking University (PKU), Beijing.

There will be 6 places beginning at the start of the 2017-2018 academic year. The opportunities are aimed at any students passing HSK level 3 and HSKK beginner level at your school by the time when handing in the application, intending to study Chinese language at university. Students should have a minimum score of 180 in HSK Test (Level 3), and 60 in HSKK Test (Beginner Level) to apply for the Hanban scholarship.

Please note: You should have HSK and HSKK’s results at the time of application for Hanban’s scholarship, so please arrange your tests as soon as possible. To find out HSK and HSKK Exam time, please refer to the timetable from the link below:

Applicants must fill in the PKU Study application and send in scanned copies of the following documents;

  • AS/Pre U/HSK/Exam results (predicted result from the Chinese teacher where applicable)
  • Reference letter / letter of recommendation from the teacher of Chinese and the Headteacher of their school
  • A personal statement outlining their learning experience and how they will benefit from a scholarship at PKU
  • Any awards or certificate that will support your application

 

Hanban Scholarship

Once the application for PKU study is approved, the applicants must log on to the Hanban Scholarship website to register, fill in the Hanban Scholarship Application online and upload the scanned copies of relevant supporting documents(the same as above). Please choose Peking University in the application. The Chinese teachers of the applicants are expected to support the students in this process.

PKU study programme application eligibility criteria:

Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens.

Applicants must be over the age of 16 when applying for the visa and may need to have a Chinese guardian at the time of application if they are under 18 years of age. Please get in touch with the IOE CI team if you encounter any problems.

 

PKU study programme application timeline

The application for the 2017-18 PKU Study programme to the IOE Confucius Institute is open from now until the end of March 2017. Any unconditional offers will be issued from PKU by the end of June.

 

PKU study programme course structure:

There are two terms a year:

Term 1 September to January/February

Term 2 February to July

The structure of the course will involve 20 hours of study per week. An exam will be applied at the end of each term. A PKU certificate will be awarded to the students who successfully complete/pass the course.

Students are welcome to apply to study a degree course in any other subjects at PKU for the subsequent years. PKU scholarships will be available for candidates to apply for degree courses.
